This and that

Hello readers. If you haven’t already discovered it yourself, I added a new page to my blog titled “Inspiration.” It’s a list of links to lead you to blogs I love. Who knows! Maybe you’ll find inspiration there, too.

Here are five things that caught my attention lately:

1. these hazelnuts

Porello hazelnuts

because they taste so fresh and good and a thoughtful friend recently gifted me two packages (from Italy.) I’m already on the second bag.

2. these crab apples

because another thoughtful friend invited me to pick them from her glorious backyard tree.

3. this crabapple jelly

crabapple jelly

because I love food gifts (see items 1 and 2) and I will never get around to making my own. What about that colour!

4. this palo santo wood

5. these marigolds

because removing blooms keeps plants producing more and more. Plus the orange and yellows leave me spellbound.

Have a Wonderful Weekend

have a wonderful weekend suzanne-mccarthy.comThis weekend Simon and I are going to the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards. Among this year’s recipients of the highest honour in the performing arts in Canada are Sarah McLachlan, Atom Egoyan and Jean-Marc Vallee (he directed The Texas Buyers Club and Wild) so it should be entertaining.

It’s a black tie affair, meaning we have to get all fancy and stuff. Nothing in my closet that comes even close to that level of glam, so I’m taking advantage of this service. I go for a private fitting tomorrow morning. They have heaps of dresses to choose from, some by designers whose dresses were worn on the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Wow!

Here are a few interesting links from around the web:

The best way to poach an egg or cut a mango? Check out these excellent cooking videos.

Other than her non-comedic performance in Saint Vincent, I haven’t enjoyed much of what Melissa McCarthy has done since the hit film Bridesmaids, but this looks funny.

Love this food photography.
